Finally

At the beginning of the year one could find me nestled tightly under a warm blanket in my room, most days after school. Nothing but silence filled the room and not even my phone would take me away from my reading. Now most days after school one would find me stuffing my face with any food at hand reach and perhaps going the whole day without picking up a book. I don't know what changed exactly! At the beginning of the year I tore through books like a speeding train, now i'm more like a slow moving horse and wagon. I had trouble meeting my page requirements (but it didn't help that i just got the memo that i was suppose to read 150 pages, not 100). But I have a feeling that I stopped reading for me, and read because Mr. Hill made me. When a teacher asks you to do something it suddenly and unfortunately becomes a tedious task. It became another homework assignment that came to be dreaded on a daily basis. Perhaps I also stopped meeting my page requirement because recently I have ran into some awful luck with books! The last three books were astoundingly slow moving and the characters did very little for me. At the beginning of the year I was pleased with my books and had a hard time putting them down! But I undoubtedly had a trend of reading books that were later made into major motions pictures. I'm not sure, i haven't even seen the movies they were made into, save Into the Wild! It was just a habit that I tried to break, and once I did I ended up unsatisfied. Well I've hope you'd enjoyed looking at my blog Mr. Hill. I'm pretty sure you're the only one who ever did! Well that's the word on the streets. Fresh money out yo.

Last volunteer post

Through my journey of blogging I have learned one thing: I am not a fan of blogging. In the beginning I did not mind the tedious job but now I have come to mind it greatly. It is very inconvenient. But about my book! I have decided that the character of Clarissa is not the character Virgina Woolf is writing about! They may have a lot in common, but i don't believe that Woolf wrote her story. It is just a very confusing and generously annoying plot in the story. However, the writing in this story is very different than anything i have read before. In this story simple things, such as walking into a kitchen, creates an astounding and creative metaphor. Most the metaphors are sad though. Usually they are sad. They usually speak of loneliness and regret. It is also often said that the word 'happy' is a dumb word. I don't agree with that one bit! However, i still enjoy the language even if it is a tad depressing at times. Well that's the word on the streets for (almost) the last time! Fresh Money out.

Confused

Well. This book is seperated by three women. Virgina Woolf, the author. Laura, the reader of Woolfs book. Calrissa, a woman who seems to be the character in Woolf's book. But i can't tell! You see the woman in Virgina's book and Clarissa seem to be exactly the same! However, there are a few aspects of her character and life that make it seems that maybe its a considence! I am only 92 pages in and hopefully I will recieve a clear cut answer soon! This book is good thus far though! The different women provide an interesting outlook of the time period and the different trends that defined a decade. Well that is the word on the streets! Fresh Money out

Currently

We have a new book! I decided my bad luck with books began when I started reading books that were not made into major motion pictures, so i back tracked and chose a book with a movie background! At first, however, i did not know this book was a motion picture until somone told me. I am only on page 34 but i am liking this book wayy better than Deathss Little Helpers. The novel tells a story of three woman: Clarissa Vaughan, Laura Brown, and Virgina Woolf. They all have different stories and backgrounds that are very different yet the same. Thus far I have only met Clarissa and a little bit of Virgina. Laura is a still a complete mystery. The writer writes with a lot of beautiful deatial and desrcibes things in way that are outside the box. My favorite sentences so far are...

1."Still, she loves the world for being rude and indestructible, and she knows other people must love it too, poor as well as rich, though o one speaks specifically of the reasons".

2."This determined, abiding fasination is what she thinks of as her soul (an emberassing, sentimental word, but what else to call it?); the part that might conceivably survive the death of the body."

3." Wind worries the leaves, showing the brighter, grayer green of ther undersides."

Accepting Defeat.

I can't finish this book.  I can't do it. It's a horrible book. Nothing is happening! I'm over half way in and NOTHING has happen. Nina, the lady who hired March actually told him to stop looking for Danes. WHAT!? ok. This is ridiclous. This was ridiclous two hundred pages back! Besdies the book being totally lame, it is also due back at the library tomorrow. Lame. The good news is that I will be getting a new book soon! Hopefully the next one will not disappoint me as much. Well that's the word on the streets. Fresh Money out.

A poem I thought you'd enjoy

We were asked to look up poems and though I can't use this for my project I still like it. Enjoy.

The Owl and the Pussy-Cat
By: Edward Lear

I
The Owl and the Pussy-cat went to sea
   In a beautiful pea-green boat,
They took some honey, and plenty of money,
Wrapped up in a five-pound note.
The Owl looked up to the stars above,
And sang to a small guitar,
"O lovely Pussy! O Pussy, my love,
What a beautiful Pussy you are,
         You are,
         You are!
What a beautiful Pussy you are!"

II
Pussy said to the Owl, "You elegant fowl!
   How charmingly sweet you sing!
O let us be married! too long we have tarried:
But what shall we do for a ring?"
They sailed away, for a year and a day,
To the land where the Bong-Tree grows
And there in a wood a Piggy-wig stood
With a ring at the end of his nose,
             His nose,
             His nose,
With a ring at the end of his nose.

III
"Dear Pig, are you willing to sell for one shilling
Your ring?" Said the Piggy, "I will."
So they took it away, and were married next day
By the Turkey who lives on the hill.
They dined on mince, and slices of quince,
   Which they ate with a runcible spoon;
And hand in hand, on the edge of the sand,
They danced by the light of the moon,
             The moon,
             The moon,
They danced by the light of the moon.

An update!

My blog is named update. And yet my book has failed to update at all. Every door that March has opened this far has been violently slammed in his face. Even his relationship with Jane is going down the drain! It seems like nothing is happening in this book. The author may call it suspense, I call it boredom. We were introduced to a reporter Linda Sovitch, and at first i believed that she was innocent. She has a big reputation and a lot to lose by hurting Danes. Plus, she always has a pair of eyes watching her. But has Danes wonders down an aimless path to no where, I wonder if she is covering something up. She certainly has the money to make Danes shut up for awhile. Plus a loyal assistant would certainly get the job done. Well that's the word on the streets. Fresh Money out!

Close-Reading Bingo

1.) Our first mistake comes from I think therefore I am! When this know it all says "The common language doesn't detract from the poetic melody of the sergeants thoughts." this is too vague and is a classic mistake.

2.) The second mistakes is  brought to us by Happy Go Lucky! when they say  "Maybe, they were said nonchanlty, if anything." this sentence is in past tense and is a big no no.

3.) Third spot is lucky enough to go to Keep It Classy when this classy person put "The narrator briefly discusses his “lousy childhood” and “all that David Copperfield kind of crap." this person forgot the proper puncuations. How emberassing.

4.) And last spot goes to...Doctor Von Brown in a way i honestly don't even understand. Finally, the diction of the first page in John Steinbeck's The Winter of Our Discontent is in the fourth quadrant. Idon't know what this doctor is trying to get across and it wayy to vague.

M y top choice of the day...
BOOK WORM DAYS!  I really enjoyed when their opening sentence In The Secret Life of Bees Kidd exhibits a musical, soft diction that exemplifies the sad atmosphere that surrounds the main character, Lily...They did such a good job and i am just soo proud of them! Congratulations Book Worm!

Practice Diction Analysis

Mr. Hill has asked for a complete, yet brief, close reading of "The Mezzanine" by Nicholson Baker so here goes nothing!

In this short excerpt from "The Mezzanine", Baker provides detailed imagery that depicts the scene of the lobby. Baker describes as the escalator as "They were the free standing kind: a pair of integral signs swooping upward between the two floors they served without struts or piers to bear any intermediate weight" and  he tells us that "On sunny days like this one, a temporary, steeper escalator of daylight, formed by intersections of the lobby's towering volumes of marble and glass, met the real escalators just above their middle point, spreading into a needly area of shine where it fell against their brushed-steel side-pannels, and adding long glossy highlights to each of the black rubber handrails" By using such imagery and specific details, one is able to clearly paint a picture of the lobby in their minds.

Thus far...

Thus far I have formed my own opinion on who I believe knows more about Danes than they are letting on. I believe it was Ines. She cares a great deal for Nina, Danes ex, and Billy, Danes and Ninas son. I think she would do anything to make Danes go away and lessen Nina's fiery temper. She tries to hide behind her Mexican accent and look completely sweet and innocent, but it can't fool me! Everybody else seems too obvious. However, thus far in the novel March seems to be at a stand still. It seems as if nothing new or unpredictable has happened. Im half way through and was expecting some sort of lead about who knows what happen to Danes. But nope. Nothing. Well guess I'll just have to keep reading! That's the word on the streets. fresh money out.

Currently

This week I continued  to read Death's little helps by peter Spiegelman. So far it was proven to be a good read, though i am only a hundred pages in I have managed to form my own opinion of the mystery of Dane's disappearance. But instead of revealing my opinions, Mr. Hill has asked us to look at our fellow bloggers and see some of the best sentences of their "Style Mapping" assignment. Top five include...

!.) Our top sentences comes from Kims Corner! She is reading "The Virgin Suicide" and states that "In Neil's excerpt he writes in a style that is dull and archaic as he describes that stoney features of the town of Wall"

2.) The second spot goes to Eddie! She is reading "Blood Meridian" and tells us that  McCarthy "uses figurative language to also describe his fear of citizenry and uses vast diction to add a old fashion appearance to the novel."

3.) Our third place goes to T-Rex who is also reading "Blood Meridian" and she tells us that
" describes the early morning dusk with low connotating language to convey the hash and gentle setting of the exert"

4.) In fourth place comes RocketGuild who is reading Star Dust. RocketGuild tells us that "The diction is fragile and overlaps a light use of figuratuve language. The passage includes mildy sweet language such as "granite amidtst a small forest woodland." in the story

5.) At last place, the loser of the bunch who wasn't good enough for the top four spots, comes from Becca's blog! yay! Becca is reading The Things they carried and she says "

The elevation of his diction is pretty average - not rude or flowery - and the sound can be described as both grating and melodious as he switches between describing the horrors and beauties of war."

Well that's the word on the streets folks. Fresh Money out

Who do you think it is?

Names of suspects on March's "Peoples who might know more than they are letting on possibly even abducted Danes" list:
1.) Nina Sachs-angry lesbian ex-wife of Greg Danes. She seems to be a very mean and ill tempered lady who could snap and any moment. She decided calling the cops would lead to a scandal and private eye was the way to go. Perhaps she believes taking in the innocent approach is the best alibi?

2.) Ines-angry lesbians new lady friend.Personally, i believe she is too nice to commit such a crime. But its always the nice ones you have to look out for.

3.)Ms. Pratt-Work associate of Danes. Her whole world revolves around the stock market, and when Danes led her business into the ground she was bitter. But how bitter?

4.)Dennis Turpin- Worked with Danes. before he went missing Turpin and Danes had a brawl and Danes went storming out of the building. He's been acting hostile and very tempered when it comes to March's investigation It would be almost too obvious to point the finger at him, but sometimes our eyes miss the most obvious things.

5.) Linda Sovitch- a beautiful news reporter that had a relationship with Danes after his divorce. The married reporter has a big reputation and would lose a lot by hurting Danes. However, when March introduced this journalist it was apparent she was holding back. Will her spotlight reveal and even bigger truth?

...Who do you think it is?

Style Mapping

A rainy day has brought us to lazy blogging in class today. We've been asked to depict and compare the style of writing among three books we have read. Each book has its own voice. My three choices are :Into the Wild, Death's Little Helpers, and Crank. Into the Wild tells a true and humbling story of Christopher McCandless and his quest to alaska. The words on the pages create a  language of denotative tone and sound almost journalistic as if I was reading a two hundred page newpapers article. But none the less, Jon Krakauer manages to create a sad melody with the explanation of Chris McCandless's death. Death's Little Helpers has a melody to it as well but the melody is almost haunting and gives the reader a chill down his or her back. The author comes across as both vulgar and blunt at the same time. However, crank brings writing that is very different to the table. Crank tells a story entirely in poem from. The language is dark and haunting, and creates both heart ache and fear. The author writes in a strictly connotative language.

Another new book

Here we have a new novel to this Fresh Money blog. Death's Little Helpers is a mystery about the disappearance of Gregory Danes.  Described by his ex-wife Greg was a lousy husband and an even lousier father. With a long list of enemies it's no wonder that Greg that went missing. However, is it really as dangerous as people are making it seem. Gregory had a shameful face and reputation that is far from sparkling, perhaps his embarrassment finally caught up with him? That's up to  John March, well known for getting the job done, detective. John has had his share of dangerous business taken too far. Four years ago his wife was brutally murdered by men who decided March knew too much. But he has given his  heart time to heal and has found new love. Jane has experienced March's business and she knows the risk of falling in love with John, but the heart wants what the heart wants. But will her heart lead  her down a dangerous road? Perhaps John will realize yet again what risks are taken when duty calls.

And thanks goodness for another ending..

And so we say goodbye to yet another bad book. Girls in trucks proved to be a bad read after all. There was no story at all. In the beginning I actually liked the main character, Sarah. But that soon changed. The story begins by introducing Sarah in 7th grade and ends with her in her early thirties. In between those years she has her heart broken, she sleeps with every man yet does not get emotionally attached to anyone of them. And in the end nothing has changed. The only thing she is attached to is  her daughter, Jessie, which came from a one night stand with a German tourist with an angry wife. Go her. This book is two hundred pages of the exact same thing happening again and again. There  is  no story, only brief glimpses of hope that are crushed each time Sarah does something stupid to ruin it! A very very lame read. Hopefully my luck will change soon. Well that's the word on the streets. Fresh Money out.

Quarterly

Most days after school one would find me lying in bed with a book in my hand, lazily reading the stories of made up people that come from ones imaginations, or the true tales of those with wild imaginations. This quarter I have read 5 books, and my favorite has been the Lincoln Lawyer. The Lincoln Lawyer originially caught my eye because it looked like something my daddy would have read, plus it was different than anything else i had read in the past. This novel never provided a moment of boringness and kept on my toes up until the very last page! My goal this semester is to continue reading books that normally would not have caught my eye in the past.

POEM TIME WITH KIM!

Kim is writing a poem
It will  probably be lame
But maybe she's not to blame
She once again picked a bad book
It's a story about a cook
Who gives an evil look
But today Kim is looking ravishing
Her polka dot flatts are rather lavish
As for me i am in Sweats
It's what i normally wear
I do not care
Fore at seven in the morning I can not think
But today i did wear pink!

Girls in Trucks

I have stumbled upon a book that is a first for my blog. Girls in Trucks written by Katie Crouch is the only book that has been read thus far that was not made into a major motion picture, and is a little bit of a chick flick. Girls in Trucks tells the story of Sarah Walters, a regular girl living in a debutant world. Her story beings when she is in 7th grade with her four best friends. They all grow up and they separate, all except her all Charlotte. Charlotte is the dare devil that Sarah is not, and they compliment each others quite well. Through her journey with boys and escaping a life of white gloves and overly cheery smiles, Sarah takes us with her. Well that's the word in the streets folks! Fresh Money out.

and FINALLY it's over

I love reading. I love reading a good book. I did not love Into the Wild. It tells an amazing story and gives a beautiful insight into the life of Christopher McCandless! But it dragged on and on that by the end I was actually glad to put it down. The author tells a story that could easily be written in a bias manner, in a bias way, which leaves the reader to create his or her own opinion. But the author revealed too much detail into things i don't care about. When the author went back to the place where Christopher died he was accompanied by three men, I don't care where they went to school or where they grew up! I only wanted to hear about Christopher-turned Supertramp. And his journey into the wild. However, the end was amazing. It didn't have some deep thought that left the reader wondering and wanting more (No I definitely didn't want more) it instead gave Alex Supertramp and Christopher McCandless peace. The book gave the reader all the facts and all the tales, without leaving anything up to contradiction, and let the reader decide how to take it. In the end it all seemed innocent, it didn't take away the pain or end the grieving, but it put the minds and hearts at peace.

Today in etymology

Today in class
the boy next to me has gas
I am suppose to be writing my paper
But I want to do it later
For right now I am dealing with the boy
His name is Loid
I think he ate mexican
whatever it is his body did not agree
The smell is filling my nose
With every second it grows
It smells like dirty toes
What will make it go away?
I hope it doesn't last all day!
I can no longer hold my breath!
I fear Loid is going to send me to my death!
Only one more minute.
Come on clock I can't take it!

Sitting Next to KIm

I am sitting next to Kim.
If she were a man her name would be Tim.
She is mad and frustrated about the "Art Of" project
The topic we chose Mr. Hill chose to reject
So now we are no longer partners
We just simply sit by side
Her shoes glitter
But I'm not bitter
She picked out a lame book to read
She is learning and growing
like a young seed!
Well this is the end, i am glad
don't be mad
and please don't shout

The Day is Monday

Monday begins yet another week, as does it begin another week for blogging! Happy happy joy joy. I have read twenty pages of Into the Wild today and I am beginning to get more and more into it. This book is unique in that it gives detail to Alex's past. The author, Jon Krakauer, interviewed everyone he could hunt down that has any connection to Supertramp. He also wrote two chapters about people with stories similar to Alex's. Some were stubborn and ill prepared,  others were just flat out crazy; but each one went out into the wild and never came back. They were leaving behind a materialistic world and entering a world of whimsical yet deadly nature. Each man went into the wild without being prepared. Men who were so caught up in there own ambitions that they forgot the number one rule: be prepared. McCandless died thanks to a simple boy scout mistake of eating poisonous berries! One little mistake that took his life. The fact that Christopher McCandless's tale is not a rare one is somewhat heart breaking. I knew that he could not be  the only one set out to find his or herself in nature, but knowing that others who were also so bound and determined yet unsuccessful, sends out a depressing message that screams of hope being lost, of quitting, of accepting society for what it is. However, I believe each man, although ignorant, died an honorable death. Everyday people get caught up in the motions. Living each day the exact same and avoid the challenge of standing out in the crowd. These men took that challenge. They tried.

Currently yo

Well I am only sixty pages into this weeks reading (disappointing i know), but finding sentences of the weeks is a very easy task with this book. There was a vast amount to choose from and each meant something to Alex Supertramp. A lot of the sentences are from books that were found in the bus- high lighted and scribbled to death-when Alex's body was discovered. Well here we go..

1.) "It should not be denied...that being footlose has always exhilerated us."- Written by Wallace Stegner in "The American West As Living Space"

2.) "No man ever followed his genius till it misled him"- Written by Henry David Thoreau in "Walden, or Life In the Woods

3.)"It is true that many creative people fail to make mature personal relationships, and some are extremely isolated. It is also true that, in some instances, trauma, in the shape of early separation or bereavement, has steered the potentially creative person toward developing aspects of his personality which can find fulfillment in comparative isolation." Written by Anthony Stork in "Solitude: A Return To the Self" This one is my favorite because when first read it sounds intellectual and promotes solitude. But I believe that solitude for the creative mind is a punishment, and actually not good at all.

A tough blog

Before reading "Into the Wild" I watched the motion in which the book was made into. Seeing the movie has made it difficult for me to really get into this book because I already know what happens. A few things have changed, but the names and places are all the exact same. I am a little less then a week into the  book and I am only sixty pages in. To some people that may seem like a lot, but to me, a dedicated reader, that is not very impressive. The book is very well written. And the Author tells a tragic story without being bias. However, unlike the movie it is not a necessarily a narrative. The author tells of his interviews from first person which is a disappointing twist. Of course there really isn't any other way to truly depict the journey of Alex Supertramp, otherwise known as Chris McCandless in a former life. It's hard to write about each of his journeys without giving away the whole story! But his journeys are inspiring to say the least. Alex meets people that the average person normally stays away from, and he takes everything away from that person that is possible. He learns and studies and passes on what he has learn in a way that is not at all arrogant. Every person he met on the road he left a part of himself with. Whether they were rubber tramps or eighty year old men with nothing left to their name, he brought a smile bright enough to mask a cloudy day. Well Ladies and Gentelmen that is the word on the streets! Fresh Money out

With the one more book under my belt I have moved onto a new book called "Into to the Wild." Written by Jon Krakauer. The book shares of the story of Christopher Johnson McCandless, and his adventure to Alaska to escape a materialistic world. Adding up the ending pages from The Help and the new pages of Into the Wild, that would bring my total number of pages read this week 140. Today Mr. Hill has asked us to choose our favorite sentences that we have blogged about so far. Well here we go...

1.) "Philanthropy isn't only measured in dollars." This is one of my favorites because when I grow up i want to work in Philanthropy, but it is never too early to start giving.

2.) "Before I know it, she done pulled down her panties and tinkled in it ( the old toilet sitting in the front yard) and I'm chasing after her with half a dozen horns honking and a man in a hat taking pictures."

3.) ." 'And isn't it kind of expensive, carting all this tin across the world to Ethipoia?' Mary Joline asks. 'Doesn't it make more sense just to send a check?' (referring to giving canned food to the poor starving children in Ethipoia)
4.) "No tattoos, unless you're in the armed forces" just some general good advice.

The beginning of the end

I have come to the end of "The Help" and it was an excellent! The ending was a bit of a cliff hanger though. However, the three ladies journey came to an end that seemed to start a whole new adventure. Miss. Skeeter and Steve's jourey came to a sad end. One night by a fire he purposed to Miss. Skeeter! The same night Miss. Skeeter told him about her novel about the maids. As the words came out of her mouth the love seemed to come out of his heart. He picked up the ring, walked out the door and never turned back. Miss. Skeeter's luck did turn around, however, when she got a job in New York. Her new journey begins in the big city. The same night Miss. Skeeter left was the same night Minny decided she had had enough. Over the years she had taken physical abuse from her husband, and when Mr. Ceclia told her she would always have a job as their house, she knew she was free. Her journey began the moment she put her foot down and chose to leave her husband. AiBileens journey though may not be so sweet. Hilly told Mrs. Leefolt that AiBileen stole, therefore Mrs. Leefolt took away her job. Forcing her to leave behind Mae Mobley. She worked her heart out to make sure that child knew black and whites were equal, and her job wasn't finished yet. AiBileens heart was broken and she knew she was too old to find another family. Her journey is new and scary.

Top Five Claims yo

Top 5 include..
1.) From Kims corner we have..." In Bérenger's black and white photograph, his dramatic contrast and enticing depth of field draw the viewer into the picture with active negative space that elevates the shadows from the composition to illustrate an ominous and mysterious mood." I find this  one to be the most commanding that authoritative. Kim used excellent wording I liked her photograph

2.) Our next one comes from Phyllis who writes..."[In this scene from Vincent van Gogh's Cafe Terrace at Night , his colorful and exciting use of setting, busy but pleasant mood, and inviting cozy buildings]portrays [a sense of playful benevolence and lighthearted liveliness.]"

3.) Our number three spot goes to The New Zealaner....Claim: On the album cover of Titus Andronicus's "The Airing of Grievances," the commanding, classic font and layout of the cover, as well as the cluttered and colorful use of space in the photograph convey the band's homely practice environment and admiration for the old-fashioned symbols of history.

4.) In the fourth spot we have a claim on one of my favorite songs..." In this video of Adele preforming "Someone Like You" live, the audiance hears her explosive, elegant voice, with lyrics that have a powerful, motionless, old-fashioned message to them that creats a tranquil vibe throughout the theater." Brought to you by T-Rex

5.) Finally we have a claim by Eddie stating...."This passionate picture shows a strong sturctured, elegant ballet dancer expressing her confident sharp body language, elegant attire, and complex poised position."

                                                       MOST OUTSTANDING AND CREATIVE
The award for most creative goes to... RocketGuild"The soothing, cheerful melodies and harmonies, light vocal instrumentation, and playful, relaxed rhythms in McFerrin's song, depicts a mood of lighthearted cheerfulness and soothing rejuvenation." This is one of my favorite songs and they did a great job expressing what this song is all about

This fine friday marks the end of the week.In total I have 292 pages of The Help this week alone. That means I am 408 pages in, and a little over half way to the end. My three favorite sentences of the week include:

 1. "A man-a naked man- is out by the azaleas!"

  2. "Before I know it, she done pulled down her panties and tinkled in it ( the old toilet sitting in the front yard) and I'm chasing after her with half a dozen horns honking and a man in a hat taking pictures.

3." 'And isn't it kind of expensive, carting all this tin across the world to Ethipoia?' Mary Joline asks. 'Doesn't it make more sense just to send a check?' And this, ladies and gentlemen, is my favorite quote of the week! The ladies club is made up of fake, as clearly ignorant, fools who pretend to care about the world surround them! This just shows the proof of that ignorance.

The rising love interest..

The Help would be the last book I would imagine to have a love interest that could take up a whole chapter. However, it seems to be one of the only things on Miss. Skeeters young mind. While other women at her age are already married, poppin out babies and holding get togethers at their houses, Eugina chose a different path. The simple white picket fence life was not enough for young Eugina. She dreamed of hard hitting journalism, not hard hitting stains or chasing little ones around. By following her dream she gave up men, so much so that her mother was beginning to believe her daughter was a lesbian. But imagine her mothers joyfulness when a man, who is very tall and very handsome, shows up one their door step wanting to take young Eugina out on a date. Ever since that day Miss. Skeeter has been head over heels. My predicition: this handsome young man seems to love the fact Eugina won't settle for anything less than her dreams coming true. However, perhaps writing the stories of black maids isn't what he had in mind. The heat of her novel is going to cause a fire between the two, but i have high hopes for them in the end. Well that's the word on the streets. Fresh Money out!

The price of good help

As I go further into my reading I have learned a lot about these three ladies. My favorite character is still AiBileen, she has had a rough life but she doesn't let it show; which takes quite a bit of courage. While talking to miss. Skeeter, Aibileen let out a little secret that her son, treelore, was going to write a book about being a black boy living in a world filled with white people. The moment the words hit Miss. Skeeters ears they haven't left. The idea inspired her and encouraged her to write a novel about the lives of black maids doing a white woman's dirty work. After much debate and persuasion, Miss. Skeeter received a phone call from Aibileen agreeing to help her with her story. At first their nerves were high and the tip toeing didn't help. But Aibileen came up with a plan to write down her own story and then Miss. Skeeter will change the names and edit it! As of right now the plan seems to be working! AiBileen and Miss. Skeeter seem to even be building a friendship, however, perhaps things are working too well. Miss. Skeeter has been lying to her mom to talk to Aibileen, using church as an excuse to get out of the house. How long until her mother finds out? Things can never stay perfect for very long, it is only a matter of time before they are ruined. Well that's the word on the streets! Fresh Money out.

The Help, written by Kathryn Stockett, has proved to be a great read! I am only one hundred and twenty five pages in and my jaw has already dropped from the events that Stockett has written. My three sentences of the week that Stockett has written are:

1."The marches  in Birmingham, Martin Luther King Jr., The dogs attacking colored children. Darling, its the hottest news in the nation."

2."I do this with you, i miswell burn down my own house!"

3."Shhh please!" This is my favorite, because it is miss Aibileen telling mrs. sketter, a white woman to shus up!

Currently...Sorta

I forgot to post a Currently comment last week..and Mr. Hill needs one...So here goes nothin! Last friday I had only read one book: The Lincoln Lawyer by Michael Connelly. It was an exciting read that I couldn't put down! However, I also read Rules for my unborn Son. A book that my brother read filled with pages of rules for the unborn son. It's funny and is the complete opposite of The Lincoln Lawyer. My favorite sentences came from it....

1. "Live in New York."
2. "Philanthropy isn't only measured in dollars."
3. "No tattoos, unless you're in the armed forces"
this one is my favorite since I have friends in the armed forces and each of them have a tattoo!

The Help

The lincoln Lawyer was a good book, however, the show must go on! So now I have moved onto a novel called The Help, written by Kathryn Stockett. I've heard marvelous things about this novel, but now it's my turn to see it if the rumors are true. As of now I am one hundred and thirteen pages in, and the rumors seem to be truthful! This novel follows the story of three women in 1962 in the state of Mississippi, one of the most racist states in the United States. Stockett provides an inside look at  the lives of Aibileen Clarks, a black and kind hearted maid, with a sad history; Minny, a black maid who wears her thoughts on her sleeve and never holds back; and Miss. Skeeter, a white socilite fresh out of collage with a degree in Journalism and loads of ambition. From the outside looking in these three women seem to be sterotypical women of the 60's. However, each one has their own personal struggles and beliefs that set them aside from any other woman of the 60's. Well that is the word on the streets! Fresh Money out.

Good vs Evil

Well ladies and gentelmen, I have come to the end of the Lincoln Lawyer! By the last page and the last sentence, my heart was racing! Connelly certainly knows how to pull in a reader and keep them hooked until the end. Throughout my reading though the question of 'how does one recognize evil?' was brought up in my mind  again and again. Michael Haller looked innocence in the eye and could not recognize it, how could any of us? He deals with dirt bag killers for a living, therefore, you would think he would be so desperate to see a glimmer of innocence he would jump on the first opportunity he saw! Unfortunately, Haller nearly gave up his life in order to see and believe in innocence again. I highly recommend The Lincoln Lawyer to someone who enjoys a hardcore plot and a roller coaster of emotions. Well that's the word of the street! Fresh Money out.

Personality test

I took a personality test! I was expecting it to remind me that I run these streets and that I am a boss. However, the results showed that I am a slightly expressed extravert, I have a distinctively expressed personality, a moderately expressed feeling personality, and a slightly expressed judging personality. The results were close but there is one thing I know to be false. I never ever judge! The test also told me that I would make a good receptionist...doesn't exactly sound like a job for Fresh Money, but I suppose anything is possible. Well that's the word on the street! Punishments of Trust

What is the cost of knowing secrets? The cost for that moment of thrill we get knowing we know information only a few other lucky people get to know? Michael Haller told the secret. Raul Levin payed the price. Levin was Haller's go to guy for all the dirt he used in the courtroom. On his current case, with Beverly Hills rich boy Louis Roulet, he confined secrets with Levin that he hardly trusted himself to have. When Haller woke up on Saturday morning, he awake to every defense lawyers dream come true: a free day. His schedule was clear, his mind was clear, and he seemed stress free. The only event scheduled for that day was a baseball game with his good friend Raul! Imagine Micheal's surprise when he is sitting at the game without Raul by his side, and a phone to ear with a detectives voice on the other end speaking of murder. Levin's murder seems to be a mystery to everyone else, except for Haller. He knows exactly who shot the gun that took his friends life. Proving his knowledge will be the hardest part of all. For once he finds out what kind of gun the murderer used, his finds he has the exact same gun. And it's missing. That's the word on the street. Fresh Money out.

Through the journey of Michael Haller, the Lincoln Lawyer has been an exciting read so far. I am two hundred and fourteen pages in and not even half way to the end. However, I snuck a peek at the book my brother is reading, Tips for My Unborn Son, and found it very funny! My favorite sentences of week have been:

         1. "Some call me the devil, but I'm a greasey angel." The wise words of Michael Haller refering to his job as a defense lawyer.

         2. "Men are never allowed to wear sandels. Ever." Agreed. A tip from "Tips for my Unborn Son"

3 " Don't ask her size. Know it." good advice for the modern day idiot who asks. A tip from "Tips for my Unborn Son".

The Thickeninng Plot

I have taken time off from running these streets to inform of the latest status of Michael Haller. Ladies and gentlemen, this is a man who is in one tough pickle. Haller seems to be realizing his biggest fear is becoming a reality: the innocent client. Before Louis Roulet came into Haller’s life, he never second guessed his way around the court room. Roulet looked like the perfect client: rich and famous. Paying the high price came as no problem for this Beverly Hills native, and the cameras came as great publicity for Haller. However, now having an innocent client could lead him down a long road filled with unimaginable guilt. The innocent client is the hardest client to prove innocent, and locking up an innocent man could haunt Haller for the rest of his days. In a simple 'wrong place at the wrong time' scenario, the voice of the innocent is getting quieter and quieter as the evidence comes rolling it; which raises the question 'is this man telling the truth?' and 'how much can you really trust someone?'.  Haller puts his faith in Roulets words, but he quickly finds that even Roulet’s little white lies may lead to destruction. Haller’s brain cannot stop questioning Roulet, and won’t be settled until the honest truth is revealed.  Well as of right now, that’s the word on the street! Fresh Money out.

My First Blog

Everybody craves a good book. As we read the pages we are led into an unknown world and an unknown reality that we have never known before. Right now I am reading the Lincoln Lawyer by Michael Connelly. Michael Connelly is known for his tales of lawful justice and the Lincoln Lawyer provides new insight into a defense lawyer’s hectic life. The reader follows Michael Haller, a well-known defense lawyer famous for his winning streak in the courtroom, through unjust trials and tough jail birds. However, Haller provides us with more than just life in the confined walls of courtroom. Haller is dedicated to his job and seems to live for the thrill of defining just what exactly the justice system is made of. Unfortunately, that seems to be all he lives for. With five ex-wives and a daughter, Hayley, whose only example of a father is a present in the mail on her birthday; Haller's social life seems to be hanging by a thread. With the battle of good vs. bad constantly running through Haller's mind, he is forced to not only change his behavior, but his tactics in the courtroom. Though I am only half way through this crazy novel, I have been on my toes since the very beginning. Each page seems to thicken the plot and send the reader into a deeper trance that is harder to break with each page turned. Well that is the word on the streets. Fresh Money out.
